CFC Bulletin - Week 3

by Abby

SABAH FC 4 – 2 KELKATU FC

Top of the table leaders Sabah FC started the game with a goal by Sultan in the 11th minute and a very close shave of a clearance by Firdaus on the goal line after a very on-target free kick taken by Safiq less than ten minutes later. After a foul for a hand ball by Chendol, Danny had a spectacular free kick but the cross was unfortunately wasted. Hafiz, Kelkatu’s goal keeper should be credited for several of his crucial saves. About 15 minutes into the second half, Mohsen equalized with a grounder shot. And just 3 minutes later, Safiq scored once again, giving them a rare lead over the champions. The lead, however, was short-lived as Sultan scored another two goals, earning himself yet another hat trick in the span of 3 minutes. Hopes of equalizing were shattered when Sultan fires the last goal of the match into the net with a lock right over the keeper’s head 5 minutes before the game ended, and was declared Man of the Match. Again.

GALACTICOS FC 6 – 1 BORNEO FC

Previously conceder of 17 goals to Machanz’ Borneo FC faces Galacticos next. Galacticos had a stronger start with a goal by Aeron in the 8th minute. A few attempts followed after, notably Salim’s that hit the post, Robert’s that went wide and Aeron’s that hit the post again. And also a rare one from O’Neil of Borneo FC’s that also went wide. In the 31st minute, Steve took advantage of Richard’s mistake and blasted a goal pass him and into the net. Marko then decided to join the goal keeper’s slip-ups club and allowed O’Neil to chip the ball pass him, resulting in their second goal scored so far in the league. They had another chance to score but Shannon’s free kick went too far wide after a hand ball foul by Gideon. In the second half, it was apparent that Galacticos needed to brush up on their defending. Their striking stayed on a positive stability with superb attempts by Robert, Salim, newbie Jackie and Aeron. The ball finally found the back of the net twice in 2 minutes thanks to Robert. Aeron then swooped in and scored two final goals for Galacticos and walked away with a hat-trick and the title as Man of the Match.

D EAGLES FC 5 – 0 CRAZY STONE

Eagles FC were obviously the favorites to win the match. However, the replacement of the new keeper, Joel, proved to be jackpot for Crazy Stone as he made a number of brilliant saves that kept the score line empty for half an hour. Eagles then took the lead with a low drive goal by Zee, and another goal by Mmediong five minutes later. It was rather impressive that Crazy Stone only conceded two goals in the first half. Eagles did eventually find their way pass the goal keeper with two more goals from Zee and one more from Mmediong. This is the first time Crazy Stone conceded less than ten goals in one match and has shown massive improvement with the appointment of a new manager, Jowad. Joel was named Man of the Match for his amazing goal keeping.

TRINITY FC 0 – 5 MACHANZ

A lot of people expected more from this match, especially on Trinity’s part. Mazly opened the scoring with a goal in the 26th minute, with slick assisting from Lingesh. In the 38th minute, Raj handed a great pass to Mazly, who then nicely tucked it into the goal, allowing Machanz to lead 2-0 by the end of the first half. About ten minutes into the second, Sean conceded a penalty for a harsh tackle on Lingesh (which resulted in some verbal friction on the field) and Mazly took full advantage of the penalty with a third goal for the team, and for himself that day. Interestingly enough, each winning team of this week has a hat-trick hero each respectively (Sultan, Aeron, Zee, Mazly). Man of the Match, Mazly also assisted in the next goal by Raj; where the ball volleyed into the net in the 69th minute. Just as the match was reaching its end and barely five minutes into the game as a substitute, Juma scored the fifth goal of the match, resulting in a rather unexpected and impressive victory over Trinity FC.
