Season Analysis: Goalscorers

This post was written by an individual that was granted a permission to write in this blog. It is not necessarily reflect CFC's perspective.

28 Matches, 141 goals. Forget about 4 own goals from New Venture, 137 goals scored by 54 players. Attacking forces are proven crucial in this league as goal differences made the different in the league position - look at 2nd and 3rd, as well as 4th to 6th.
Golden Boot award will be handed to Raj(again) from Machanz FC, with the total of 11goals almost half of their total. His teammate Lingesh followed closely with 9goals, thanks to 7 he had against New Venture - while Raj took the remaining 4 they got in that match. This partnership contributed to almost all goals for Machanz, because 2 each from Trish and Ringgo completed 24 goals for them. Raj scored in all games except when they lost to Trinity, which means they lost their medal for this season.
The Champion Sabah FC scored 31 goals in the campaign, 2 of them came from NV's own goals. Jorden lead their goal chart with 6goals. Eventhough that amount of goals put him 5th place (with Nadun from Eagles), but they have 11 players scored throughout the season to help them winning the league. Taha, Fir and Ahmed contributed 4 each, and Nan scored 3 before he broke his collar bone. Sumit and Berty scored twice, while 4 more scored once. Defender Julian's goal in highlight gave them the winning against main title rival (in week 6) Galacticos.
2nd place Eagles FC is 2nd in term of goals scored, with 29goals, one from NV player. They also had 11 players scored for them, including the 2 who involved in transfer windows with machanz - Samuel and Juma. Mmediong scored 8 to get 3rd in the scorers' rank, while Nadun matched Jorden's goal tally with 6. They also have Salim with 4, and Kimu with 3 - one from it when he equalized against Sabah FC. Ope had 2, while 6 more scored one.
Table leader in more than half of the season Galacticos who finished 3rd, only scored 20 (4th in term of goal scored) shared among 9players. Their star-man Steve lead the way with 5, and Sean scored 4. 3 more players scored twice, JJ, PK and Mseks. 4 other players scored one. One more goal is from NV own goal.
Kelkatu FC relied too much on the rookie Amirul who scored 7 for them, more than one third of the total 18. Salim and Abdi scored 3, while Mohsen had 2 for himself including the equaliser against Galacticos in the last match. 3 more players scored one.
Sheperd scored 3 for Trinity, and Dennie 2. 4 more players scored one.
As for UFC, they scored their opening goal in their shocking win against Kelkatu in week 3 through Farid. Daniel scored 3, and Rusy scored 2.
New Venture opened their goal in the first matach against Trinity by Ragu. But they had the own-goal issue in the following matches. Their ey-player Farouk however managed to score 2 more.

This analysis suggests that having a squad that is capable to score is very important, more important than just having one (or two) scoring machine in the team. It is proven when Sabah, Eagles, and Galcticos had 9 to 11 players scored for them. Machanz in the other hand was 'not-enough' to get top 3 even they have 2 top scorers in the league which gave them 20 goals amongst just the two of them.

Week 4 Summary

Theme - Keep clean sheet, you'll be on top.
Saturday
Kelkatu FC 5 Trinity 0
Trinity started this game with only 9 players, suspected that the rest are still recovering from the after-prom-effect (peace!). However, the full-team Kelkatu did not really capitalised the advantage they have, until Salim break the deadlock with a smart long-distance chip-shot. Kelkatu lead 4-0 in first half, 2 from Amirul and 1 from Abdi. Abdi added another in 2nd half, while Trinity got their men up to 11 after that to finish the remaining 20minutes.
Machanz FC 11 New Venture 0
Raj and Machanz combined together to destroy NV side. Machanz had 7-0 lead in the first half. Despite a slow start in 2nd half, Machanz scored 4 more to complete the disastrous 11-0 win to NV, with Hafeel notably made a funny handball foul for the only yellow card of the day. Lingesh was awarded man of match, for his 7 goals and some assists from 4 of Raj's goals. Lingesh is now league top scorer with 9, closely followed by 8 of Raj.
Sunday
Galacticos FC 11 UFC 0
Galacticos keep their net safe and away from any ball as they trash UFC side 11-0. For record, Galacticos haven't concede a goal this season, proved that Joel and Celestine worth their individual award last season. Galacticos started brightly from the very beginning and looked unstoppable. 7 players are on the scoresheet for them. UFC lost their goalkeeper Basil in the middle of 2nd half for injury. Celestine notably made a brilliant run just from outside his own penalty box, driblle past few players and sprint all the way to opponent's penalty box before calmly slot the ball in to add his name into the scoresheet.
Sabah FC 1 Eagles FC 1
The match to watch for this season as the previous time this 2 teams meet, the match didn't end. It is also a match that could make it obvious of which team is favorite to grab the league this season because they shared points on top of the table before this week start. A very entertaining match in term of quality, Taha's free kick was flick-headed by Jorden to give Sabah the lead in the first half. However, they lost Nan(subbed with Fir then) in the first half for an injury that loooked serious. A report later confirmed that he broke his collar bone. Both teams maintain their spirit in 2nd half, and Eagles got their equaliser by Kimu's long shot from outside the box. Sabah also lost Marco after that for a brave save from him in 1-on-1 situation, and Den replaced him in goal. Sabah was playing with 10-men for this incident as they made all the subs before it. The match ended 4 minutes before time as the field is too dark to continue, and the scoreline is fair for both team.

Galacticos climbed to top this week, with 2 goals different advantage to the other 2 teams that share same points - 8. Sabah and Eagles are those sharing the points, with Sabah has more goals scored to be at 2nd spot. Machanz is just 1 point below them to follow closely. Kelkatu, Trinity and UFC followed with a staging points 5, 4 and 3 respectively. New Venture is still finding their point at the bottom.

Transfer Windows Closed

Sorry for inaccurate report previously about this issue.

After almost 3 weeks for the teams to re-strengthen their players list, some teams made effort to reorganise their players.
UFC made 10transfers, 5ins and 5outs. However, their transfers didnot involved other teams, meaning players out not joining any team, and players in are also not from any team, as simple as that.
Machanz and Eagles in the other and made a trade, in defensive department. Samuel joined Machanz in the value of Juma to go the opposite way.
There is also a transfer in New Venture because Andrea Ongeta left after finished his IEP, and replaced by a new boy.

Good luck to all for the remaining 4 matches!!!

Sunday Overview

Sunday. Galacticos enter the field against New Venture with high confident but with more cautious not repeat Kelaktu's mistake one day before. Galacticos won by 5-0 by the of this match. BUt they played with 10-men for about 50 minutes when captain Rabbit collected his 2nd yellow from a high-handball. Galacticos if now the only team in the league to keep clean sheets after 3 games. This could prove the worth of best-defender award Celestine got previous season.
The 2nd match between Eagles and Trinity was another title determining match, for both drew with Galacticos before, and beaten the 2 new teams. However, pre-match was disturbed by claims that Trinity will field unregistered players, which is still under investigation. The match went tight as expected, but Eagles proved they are the better side, and a side to be watched. Eagles won 4-2, and that brought them to 2nd spot with same points to Sabah. Sabah are above for 1 extra goal scored. This match saw another incident, where Eagles non-playing-members(manager, subs, fans) were celebrating their goal in the pitch line. An attemp from committee to stop that had also sparked another unhealthy arguement.
After all, the league is good so far after 3 matches. Transfer window is now open for teams to sharpen their line-up. We'll see how things go in few weeks time.

Kelkatu Dropped Out

Kelkatu FC 0 - UFC 1
Saturday, 5pm. Match between Kelkatu FC against UFC was thought by many to an easy for Kelkatu. Newly-formed UFC had conceded 20 in 2 matches, while Kelkatu drew with strongsides - Sabah and Machanz.
Overconfident Kelkatu fielded 5 strikers but UFC defended like Great China Wall in the first 20 minutes. A mistake from Kelkatu's defensive department opened opportunity for Farid to calmly slot a goal for UFC.
Kelkatu maintained the attacking pressure on UFC, but goalkeeper Basil and man-of-the-match Justin shut the goal's mouth pretty well. Match ended 1-0.
Kelkatu is now 2nd from bottom, while UFC just above them with 3 points from this win.

Sabah at the Top of Mountain

Machanz FC 1 - Sabah Fc 2
Saturday, 3pm. The match between 2 previous champions Machanz FC against Sabah was held with prematch talk about the injuries issue in both team. But, they fielded all the available players and the match went tight even without some big names.
Despite Machanz who had more players injured, it was Sabah who lost a player as early minute when AShvin had to be substituted. Jorden opened the scoring for Sabah, follwed by Taha's dribble from leftside of center line past 2 players, and beat 2 more when he cut inside to penalty box and slot the ball past Mohamed for Sabah's 2nd. First half ended with 2-0.
2nd half started with different approach from Sabah where they seem to play it safe to holding on with the 2 goal lead. Lingesh and the gang worked their socks off to get the goal, and Raj scored few minutes before time. BUt it was not enough, and Sabah gained 3 valuable points to make them the obvious favorite for the league title.
Both sides drew with Kelkatu FC before, and had big win against UFC/New Venture to be level before this match.

Professionalism: Celebration

This is not a decision by CFC, nor an agreed situation by board of CFC. This is an opinion from a member that was granted a permission to write in this blog.

In related to the incident on sunday, the match between Eagles and Trinity, some aspect of the incident need to be clarified. This post will also try to explain some of the confusion that is seen in the chat box.
First thing to comment is the Eagles' celebration. In professional football, it is clear that players' who are not CURRENTLY playing in the 11 in the field, should not by any means intrude the pitch area. It includes NOT for celebration, medical reason, what else other negative things(if any).
However, we are being linean in such a way that we understand we don't provide proper medic staff etc to make the situation PERFECT for the league, so some cases is allowable. I mean, a teammate who is not playing may be allowed to bring his injured friend out of the field or anything like that.
However, some unimportant thing (like celebration), players shouldn't be allowed to enter the field. But, the scorer may want to go outside the pitch to celebrate with the subs(and fans, and manager), not the other way round. This should be the way.
It should be the manager's responsibility to understand this task, and make sure the players know what is can, what is cannot.
Second thing to comment, Rabbit involvement in the field for that moment. There has been few versions of stories about his action. However, from management point of view, CFC need to control such celebration to not go overboard, and as a high committee member and the official-on-duty for that match, Rabbit did put his effort to bring the situation into control. There might be some dissatisfaction from the other party, but in this case people should listen to what the official-on-duty asked you to do.

I am not in any power to make decision for this case, but I have suggestion. Eagles' celebration that day shouldn't be repeated in future, and committee can make it clear to EVERYONE about this.
Is there a need to punish Eagles this time? If yes, what kind of punishment? Only for certain players(yellow card for those who intruded?) or the punishment for team? If no, in what way we can make it sure that this will not repeat?
Should Rabbit be attacked for his action that day?
All these are the questions that we all should think about, properly, so that it will benefited all of us, the club, the teams, and the quality of the league itself.

Review: Eagles 12 UFC 0

Prepared by Abby for CFC Bulletin.

Then a series of goals followed: Landy (6”), Mmediong (13” and 31”), Salim (24”), Nadun (30”), Samuel (32”) and Amate (34”). In the 2nd half, the series of goals continued: Kimu (42”), Mmediong (45”), Salim (58”), and Ope, who took the penalty at the 71st minute. Man of the Match was Nadun, who did a notably good job in the entire game.

Review: Machanz 1 Kellatu 1

Prepared by Abby for CFC bulletin.
Machanz started off with a bang when Safiq managed a double save and when Raj’s long shot hit the post. Raj eventually scored the lead in the 11th minute. Kelkatu had a few strikes by Salim and Azam (saved by Mohammad). In the 20th minute, Machanz conceded a penalty when Amirul was tackled in the box. Tompoq took the penalty and shot it right pass the bar. In the 33rd minute, Kelkatu equalized when Salim shot the ball into the back of the net after a cross from Mau. Another penalty was conceded by Machanz and somehow, Amirul’s penalty shot was saved by Mohamed. Kelkatu had just missed two penalties in one match. Man of the Match was Venket because he did a very good job with the defending.

Review: New Venture 0 Sabah FC 13

Back again after a draw with Kelkatu, Sabah faced New Venture, whose hopes were brutally crushed in just about 15 minutes into the game when Sabah led the game with 4 goals. A hat-trick by Nan (6”, 8” and 9”) and Jorden’s ball which was blocked into the goal by NV’s Raymond. A series of goals by Sabah followed: Ahmed (17” and 25”), Cipriano (20”), Danny (penalty 23”), Taha (38”), Tammam (43”), Jorden (46”) and Sumit (54”). Review: Galacticos 0 Trinity 0

Prepared by Abby for CFC Bulletin

After a two week break, the teams are back for their second match. Both teams had a good start with a few off-target shots by PK, Adi (Galacticos), Philip and Baller (Trinity). Shortly after, Vincent’s try was saved by Joel. Galacticos had the better start to the second half with a few tries by Mseks, Steve and JJ who had a free kick (both saved by Hilary), and PK. The ball went on the other side with more tries from Baller, Kuda and Danny, which all went off-target or were saved by Joel. Few minutes before the match ended, PK had an open chance to score the last-minute winner for Galacticos but he missed. Both teams left with a point each, with Man of the Match awarded to newcomer Trinity player, Danny.

Review: Machanz FC 8 UFC 0

The title holders, Machanz, went up against the other newly formed team, U. FC with the comeback of Trish, after a break due to a leg injury. He and Lingesh had a few tries before the ball finally hit the back of the net thanks to Ringo in the 13th minute. 2 minutes later, Lingesh added another goal to the score line. Raj had a try but it went off target. He did however assist the third goal for Machanz, which was scored again by Ringo. Hasnat made a number of fantastic saves for U.FC while Mohammad, on the other end, was barely tested. After a few attempts, Raj scored the 4th goal at the 48th minute. Comeback Trish scored the next goal with a header crossed by Ringo. He then assisted the next goal that was scored by Lingesh. It was he again who scored the next goal 3 minutes later, with a pass by Lingesh. In the 77th minute, Raj wrapped up the game with the 8th goal for Machanz, sealing the win and Man of the Match award, which went to Lingesh.

Review: Kelkatu FC 2 Sabah FC 2

Kelkatu FC, back again with mostly the same team as last semester, meets Sabah FC, back with several changes, such as the absence of Sultan, who was awarded the Best Athlete at last semester’s Sport Night. Ahmed had the first few tries in the 6th and 12th minute which both went off-target but it was rookie Amirul who scored the opening goal for Kelkatu 5 minutes later, with a superb pass from Mohsen. Both sides had a few more attempts by Amirul, Mohsen, Safiq and Cipriano but the score line stayed stagnant. Sabah equalized 4 minutes into the 2nd half with a goal by Ahmed. Tompoq’s free kick was blocked out by Ashvind on the line, and Pee Chee received his 2nd yellow card and was sent off. The referee then made a few controversial decisions and issued more yellow cards to Ahmed, Danny Ooi and Ashvind. Ashvind’s conceded free kick was taken nicely by Tompoq, whose deliver was headed in by Amirul, scoring his 2nd goal in his debut match. Taha then took advantage of Hafiz’s blunder when he scored the equalizer for Sabah by firing a long shot goal from the center line during kick off. The game ended with a draw and Amirul was the Man of the Match because of his outstanding performance.

Previously 2nd in the league, Trinity faced newly formed New Venture, who is under the CFC’s advisor, Mr. Azhar, next. Trinity dominated the game right away, with a goal by Philip in the 6th minute. They had a few more attempts but more noted was Ma Xiao’s shot, which was on target but saved by Trinity’s new GK, Hilary. 10 minutes into the second half, Ragu scored the equalizer for NV, with swift assisting by Rohit. Their celebration is cut short when Trinity became another goal up with an own goal by Hafeel 3 minutes later. 3 minutes later, Taurai scored the third and final goal for Trinity and the match. Raymond from NV was chosen as the Man of the Match.

Review: Galacticos 0 Eagles FC 0

The first game of the league kicked off with a match between Galacticos and Eagles, who were unfortunately disqualified from the league last semester due to a dispute. Galacticos had more possession of the ball for most of the first half and JJ, a new installment for the team, had a shot that went wide in the 25th minute. Five minutes later, Amate tried but it was Salim’s free kick that missed a goal by just a few inches when it went slightly over the post. Shortly into the second half, yellow cards were issued to PK and Fejiro after having a dual struggle and also Galacticos’ captain Ralph for unneeded argument with the referee. Michael Owan had a really close on-target shot but it was saved by last semester’s best GK, Joel. Celestine was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant defending once again.

Trinity in Risk of Losing Their Win

On saturday, seeded Trinity played the new-comer New Venture in the 2nd match.
The match ended on Trinity side 3-1.
However, club committees had dissatisfaction with Trinity's approach to that match in term of team discipline. The committee on duty had recorded some of the team's miscooperation and they are listed below:
1- Player list. Trinity submitted the player list without substitution players listed in it.
2- Sub form. As the standard of the league since last season, substitution to be made must go through committee on duty at the grand stand. However, Trinity made few changes at half-time without reporting to the organiser. This is actually a very serious misconduct as it troubled the committee to keep track on the players, cards, and goalscorers.
3- Team location. Trinity players were found gathered at the other side of the field, while all other teams as well as suppoprters were at the grand stand. Teams MUST be at the grand stand when the match is going on, and supporters are advised to be there too.
4- Long socks and shin pad. Some of Trinity players were recorded using short socks, and some without shin pad. There were some arguement about this when we tried to inform them about this issue after the match. Trinity claimed New Venture didnot use longsocks and shin pad too, but as recorded, only ONE New Venture player did this, compare to SOME from their side.

Trinity however on that day agreed to change their attitude to the game in future, and a verbal agreement made that if they did not improve in the next game in term of those factors, they'll get point deduction.
From the weekly meeting, the club committees had come to some decision about this matter. The verbal agreement is used, with 2 points deduction will be imposed if Trinity failed to fulfill their promises. The deduction will not effect the game's scoreline - Trinity won 3-1.
This incident should be an example to other teams also. Please follow all the rules, and cooperate. Thank you.

Ralph Suspended 1 Match for Misconduct

The weekly meeting this week came across few issues about our league and one of it involved a Galacticos player, Ralph or known more as Rabbit.
In the event of match against Eagles, there was a heated situation in Eagles' penalty box which led to some arguement, and Ralph was found walking into the field, while he is still a bench player. Please note that no player should go into the field if you are not allowed by the referee (for sub or medic-treatment-help reason)
His action was observed and recorded by the committee. The referee on duty had given him a yellow card for that.
However, club committees had found that his behaviour is considered a provokation that might lead to a more serious situation if it not stopped. Therefore, the committee agreed to apply 1 match suspension for this reason. Ralph will also be under probation, and reminded not to repeat such action.
As exercised in normal condition, the decision made by board can be appealed by the party involved, but needs to follow the procedure. It includes the formal appeal letter, and a fee of RM100. After that, the appeal will be discussed in a meeting. Without proper letter, and without the fee, the appeal won't be entertained. The board decision after that is final.
This decision is now also set a new standard that this kind of behaviour can lead to match suspension even though you are not involved in any fight. We are really hoping that everybody will take note on this, and behave properly to the league rules.

League Fee Settlement

During the weekly board meeting, another critical issue raised was the failure of some of the competing teams in the league to pay league fee on time. The teams who have not paid will not be announced here, but they are all aware of it themselves.
The board has decided that ALL teams must made the payment clear by this friday, 21st August by 5pm. Failure to do this will cause them to be punished in term of point deduction. 2 points will be deducted. All managers had been texted by our secretary about this, and immediate action is expected.
To keep everyone get the situation more clear, lets understand where the fee is spent. Fees will cover the referees, and some of the equipment. So far in this club history, no profit were ever made from league fee as it all goes back to the league itself. And, league has started while teams have not made the payment. This will trouble the cashflow in the club itself to run the league.
We are seeking teams cooperation on this matter, and we are not intending to deduct anybody's point because they are hard-earned points from 80minutes of battle in the field. So guys, please appreciate your sweats, and make sure your team pay the fee by this friday before it is too late. This league is now running on more strict approach, to make it fair to everybody, as much as how humans can do with it. Thank you.

CFC League - Saturday, 15 August 2009

Curtin Football League has just started yesterday with first match of Galacticos against Eagles. Both team were really strong. The final score is 0 - 0. First half was quite boring because not much attacking from both side but second half was good. Both teams really fight to score a goal and win the game.

Second match was between Trinity and new team called New Venture. Awesome match! New Venture's player are most of the player that wanna play football but doesn't have a team. Therefore, CFC created a new team for these people so that they can play their favourite sport. As a new comer, they really give a nice impact to the spectators that cheered for them yesterday. On the other hand, Trinity, who was the 1st runner up for last semester league, came out with some new faces replacing few of the players that playing for other team. The match ended up with Trinity won by 3 - 1.

There is a bit of misunderstanding in the field which leads to the new vice president, Ralph be given a yellow card because entered the field. CFC ARE REALLY TRYING HARD to avoid any kind of fight that involves racism or provocation but its kinda hard because we live in the environment that multi racial which includes international students. Really hope that every teams really give their best co-operation to CFC so that the same matter which happened last semester will not be repeated.

CTR Community Cup: Machanz 2 - Trinity 1

Raj brought glory to Machanz, as the curtain of Curtin's football season was raised this evening. The game began slow in the first half which ended goalles.
However, the tempo increased in the 2nd half where attacks went end to end that forced the goalkeeper to make few excellent saves, notably from Trinity's goalkeeper, Hillary - new player.
Terry break the deadlock with a brilliant lob from 20yards outside the penalty box.
However, Raj proved why he is last season's top goalscorer when he scored equaliser. He took advantage of Hillary's miss-punched ball which bounced on few player before he tapped it in. Again Raj scored another after that to seal the win for Machanz.

The sponsor of the event, CTR owner Uncle Johan witnessed the match accompanied by club advisor Mr. Azhar. Uncle Johan later presented the medals and cup to the players.

Man of the Match award was given to the deserved hero Raj, while Hillary came close behind just because of his mistake that allowed the equalizing goal.

CFC Committee Semester 2-2009

There has been a huge restructural in our club organisation as a new start of this semester.
First and foremost, the previous President, the energetic Chris had decided to step down from the post to focus on his study more after experiencing the hectic-but-succesful-semester last term. However, for the love of the club he agreed to stay close by being around as an ordinary committee member.

That has caused the most important place in this club empty, and there is a need for immediate replacement in order for everyone related to football in this university happy.
As it has been a tradition in this club for years down the road, the President itself will decide who(or how) will be his successor. As a relevant guy as he has ever been, Chris with all concerned how important to make sure the next president has what it takes to run the club properly, or at least organized the compulsory league satisfyingly. Therefore, 2 names came up as the candidate of the very important role, while one prefer not to have, the other one is willing to take the responsibility and challenge to drive this club forward after a huge success during Chris's time.

The new President officially started his role on wednesday evening by conducting the first meeting yesterday. Mohd Syamim Mohd Shukor is an unknown guy to us, but Sir Dude (or actually Sedut) is a person that known to most people in Curtin, especially in football comunity. We all wish all the best for him to carry on his duty for this club.

Next position is of course the Vice President. Ahmad Syuaib or known as PeeChe to everyone remained at that position. However, the reconstruction of the club committee also means that Ralph has joined PeeChe as Vice President. It is a smart decision made by the former President as he assessed all the difficulties in running this club, and 2 vice presidents might reduced the pressure of being at the top.

Abby Chu continues to serve the club as secretary, and is believed to be joined by a vice this time around.
Treasurer spot which was empty as Joanna departed as she graduated, is filled by Rahilah or Hill to us, promoted from the ordinary committe member position last term.
The advisors remain like last semester.

There they are, the top people whom we rely on this semester to pilot the destination of our club. The other positions will be introduced from further meeting, believed to be appointed from teams that will particiapate in our league - the 14th season!

Advisor : Mr. Azhar
Student advisor : Tompoq
President : Sedut
Vice President : PeeChe and Ralph
Treasurer : Hill
Secretary : Abby

Season 1 - 2009 Ended

Saturday 23rd May 2009, the Curtin League came to an end today when the whistle blown by the referee at around 6:40pm to end the Eagles versus Galacticos match. So many things has happened within the 10weeks of the league.

Congratulation to the winners. Machanz clinched the victory with all win but 1 draw, their first match against Eagles. Ironically, Eagles had also not tasted any lost yet in their history. They had drawn in 4 occasions, making them the King of Draw in the league this season. Eagles ended in 4th spot.

Second place belongs to Trinity, with only 1 game lost, to the champion. Kelkatu, another rookie team in the league finished 3rd. The other teams are Galacticos, Crazy Stone, and Borneo FC ranked 5th, 6th and 7th respectively.

The defending champion Sabah FC however sadly out of the league after 5 matches played, while they were still leading the table. The incident that we all want to forget had also caused D Eagles to lost their winning spot. Hopefully everybody in the club will learn from this unwanted event.

The prize giving ceremony will be done in Imperial Hotel- same place like last season, but this time with a bigger event, SPORTS NIGHT organised by Student Council. The night will witness the athletes in Curtin to receive the appreciations from their contribution in the sports the participte.

For Curtin League, besides the league achievement, there are list of individual awards to be presented to surprised winners. This exclude the Golden Boot award that is belong to Raj from Machanz for 12 goals scored. He overcome the 11-goals tally by Safiq(Kelkatu) and Sultan(Sabah) in their last match, also on saturday against Crazy Stone when he scored a brace to come from 10goals to secured this finisher award.

Other awards are the subjective awards, including best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker, manager, and best rookie for any players that is experiencing their first ever season in Curtin League. Most honourable award would then be Most Valuable Player(MVP) for the best performing player in the league whichever position he plays.

Falconnettes Champs the Unisex Futsal

The tournament was held as part of the "Football Week" program. Unisex futsal was a tournament opened for guys AND girls in Curtin.
A team will consists of 4 guys, and 4 girls and at least 3 girls must be in the pitch at one time. There are many rules adjusted to contain the fairness as well the fun factor of the games. Examples are like, only girls can take free kick and kick in, girls are well protected as guys are not allowed to blast the ball (a gentleman game), and the most exciting is that a goal scored by a girl is counted as 2 goals.

The tournament was successfully attracted 10 teams, and held in 2 days (6th and 7th May) from 7pm to around 930pm. It was done in double-knockout system, which every team will play at least 2 times.
As we are all aware, cup tournament that involve single knock-out can be very cruel to certain teams if let say 2 strongest in the tournament drawn to play each other in first round. This tournament has proved this to be right and the cruelty of knock-out game was successfully lifted.
CiTY Club was beaten by Falconnettes in the first round, but they won all the games after that to claim their spot in final - to again play Falconnettes. The final ended 5-2 on Falconnettes side, to be crowned as the champion of this first ever tournament.

The tournament was very exciting, as 3 matches ended in penalty shot-out. Most attracting could be from first round, or the 3-4 play off.
In first round, Council Angels and Swimmers match ended with a draw, end the penalty was taken by all 8 players to decide the winner - from Swimming CLub. While, the 3/4 placing ended 2-2, goals from Taha(Rovers) in 9th minute, cancelled out by Nan's(BPP) at 10th, and the penalty won by Basket Poom Poom.
The first half of the final was a breath-taking one, after Ali(Falconnettes) scored, Bobby scored to give advantage to CiTY Club by 2-1. However, Falconnettes captain Abby scored to regain the lead on Falconnettes' side. Abby scored another to seal the win for them.

There are 3 individual awards allocated. Top Scorer went to Bobby for her 10 goals in the tournament. MVP Ladies category also belongs to Bobby, and Nan from Basket Poom Poom announced Guys MVP.

Attention to All Curtin Football Club Members

To: All CFC members

This notice is regarding the incident happen on 2nd of May 2009 in Curtin University Field. Frankly speaking, this match is considered as one of “Match of the Season”, but disappoint to say that it turn up to be a disaster. As the President of Curtin Football Club, I’m really very disappointed such incident happens. Other than that, it also creates disappointment and fear for many parties. We understand that this havoc started is also cause by high anxiety and emotions involve in winning the game. However, this act is unnecessary to happen.

CFC takes this matter seriously and has held meeting and advice from several parties. With the efficient and credibility of CFC committees and with the help of Student Council, the incident is consider “settle” unless any parties bring up any issues regarding the incident. Everything is stated clear black and white in the rules and regulations and to be fair to all parties, CFC are would stick to the rules under Match section 3.6.

For parties who are concerning about their safety inside and outside the field, CFC and Student Council have come out with a solution to solve this issue. We ensure students safety not only in the field but also outside the field. For players or students faces any problems please do contact Student Council President, Ranulph Harold (Nof) at 016-8007040 or contact me at 016-8355549. We encourage students not to involve in fights, if there any problems just contact us and help would be on the way. We firmly say this because have link with the head of Miri Police and they ensure to help us on the matters.

The seriousness of this incident would cause students being sentence to jail and terminated from their respective courses. We really hope students could take note of this and avoid any unnecessary fight.

To conclude my sentence, students please ask yourself this question “Why are you here in Curtin University”? “What do you get after the fight”? “Do you think it is worth it and you need to suffer all the punishment”? Our main aim here is for study and not getting a fight and being terminated. Curtin Football Club organize the league is to enhance students university life. Other than that, this semester we organized Unisex Futsal and 3 on 3 Street Challenge is also for students to try new challenge. Students please understand why we are doing the entire events for all of you. We hope students do respect CFC, respect other parties, and also be responsible, we are no longer children now. Thanks for the support from students; we hope there would be continuous support from students not only for the club and also for the upcoming events. Thanks!

Regards,

Christopher Clamond Ooi

Curtin Football Club President.

Machanz Went To The Top

match report prepared by Rahilah

1st match

Machanz vs Galacticos.

A really interesting match to watch. Galacticos started the game fiercely through nice try by Salim which went a bit over the post during 3rd minute of the match. The first 10 minutes of the match was controlled by Galacticos. But, Raj from Machanz was the one who shot the first score at 11 minutes of the game. He almost scored another goal at 15 minutes of the match but Marko saved the day. Another 15 minutes goes by was fully utilised by Steve, Salim and Jojo from Galacticos to lauch few attacks towards Machanz side. Mahmud from Machanz tried at 29 minutes and Lingesh from Machanz almost scored a goal when Marko missed to save the ball but the Galacticos Man of the Match last week, Celestine come to the rescue. First half ended with 1-0.

Second half was even better. Machanz started with a nice half volley by Mahmud but saved by Marko at 45 minutes of the game. Machanz was dominating the second half by scoring another two goals, one from Lingesh at 52 minutes and one from Mahmud when he chipped the ball over Marko at 56 minutes. Non stop attacking came from both of the teams for 15 minutes. The nice play came from Raj when he ran with the ball and passed it to Juma for a try but hit the side post. Lingesh close of the match with another goal at 77 minutes. He was the man of the match.

2nd match
Sabah v D Eagles

Started with a nice try from Sultan at 3 minutes of the match. But the match does not have a nice end to it due to uncontrollable emotion between both teams, which leads to the riot in and off the field.

added by admin
The referee called the game off after 19 minutes, with yet no goals scored. So, it was 0-0 for them. The future of both teams are to be observed by the CFC committee, and will be referred to the rules signed by all the managers earlier in the season. Any updates will be communicated further.

So the result is:
Machanz 4 - 0 Galacticos
Sabah FC 0 - 0 D Eagles

Meeting Updates 29 April

Few important issues raised towards the end of this semester. It has been a great semester so far anyway. Just to keep everyone updated here.

1 - League re-schedule.
This main event in CFC has come to the time where academic constraint has taken its place to challenge the members and committee of CFC to arrange things that can make everybody satisfied.
a) Borneo FC is having their study trip, so their match has to be postponed (originally scheduled on sunday 3rd May).
b) Kelkatu FC's players will majoritily involved in another field trip, which made their match postponed (originally scheduled 2May saturday).
The result from this problems has led to a decision to re-arrange matches for week 5 to be as below.

2 - Punctuality
Another issue has raised on previous match when teams who should start the game at 3pm came after 3pm. Therefore, the match at 5pm has became the victim when that game time was reduced due to darkness. Therefore, a more strict action will be taken after this.
a) When a team come late more than 15minutes (after 5:15 as example), the opponent will be given a walkover win by 3-0.
b) If both team come late, they will play at reduced time, so that the 2nd game(the 5pm game) will not be affected by the first game.

3 - Ball
Let say player A from team A kicked a ball to the bushes. Somebody from team A has to go take the ball, or else team A must replace with a new ball. It will be manager's responsiblity in exact, but please be relevant because manager should get co-operation from his players. Failing to settle with this order, team A might be penalised (such as point deduction, or fee in term of money).

4 - Cleanliness
Curtin management has made it clear to CFC that we might be stopped from using the field if we do not take care of the field's condition (just keep it CLEAN from rubbish, that all!!!). So, the teams behaviour will be observed. Again, it is manager's responsibility to remind the players to throw rubbish (such as cans, bottles) into the BIG DUSTBIN provided at the field. Failure to obey this will also results in penalty to the team.

5 - Discipline
Since that we have reached the peak of the league, we are ready for some more serious actions in the field, which might lead to tense situation. So, we will observed the game properly.
a) Referee's decision is final. This means, cards (yellow and red) cannot be lifted. There were so many cases when team(or palyer) made appeal to the card when they got suspended, but in CFC history none of the appeal succeed. It is clear that referee has granted full power to award the card for dubious as well as obvious misbehaviour in the field. Misbehaviour is included of swearing to the referee.
b) In case of players misbehaved but the referee did not see, committees view as witness have the power to raise the behaviour in a meeting, and a player might be penalised (such as match ban, or league ban) when the committee agrees so. Therefore, we hope everybody will play with professional behaviour.

6 - League
a) CFC has decided on awards to be given. There are teams award, as well as individual.
Team award : 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Individual : Best GK, best defender, best midfielder, best striker, Golden Boot, MVP, Best manager, and another one.

WEEK 4 - Review

Prepared by Abby (for Bulletin)

D EAGLES FC 10 – 0 BORNEO FC

Originally supposed to take place on Sunday, the match between Eagles and Borneo were rescheduled to Friday due to academic purposes on Borneo’s side. D Eagles pretty much clinched the first half, and… the second. The score sheet starts off with a goal by Fejiro, followed by Peace, Landy, two from Man of the Match Nadun and five splendid goals by their top scorer, Mmediong. Borneo had a few tries, mainly one particularly close one by O’Neil, whose shot went wide. Eagles are now third in the league with 8 points.

TRINITY FC 1 – 1 GALACTICOS FC

The match begins with a very impressive performance by Marko with a few notable saves in the first 15 minutes. Mseks did however find a way through Marko with a goal in the 22nd minute when Trinity was awarded a free kick. Five minutes into the second half, Steve equalized with a quick goal from the far left and into the net. There was a scramble in the 88th minute in the box belonging to the away team when Chris managed to clear away a very, very close attempt by Trinity. There were another few attempts by Robert, Steve and Sean, but unfortunately all of them did not come to pass. Man of the match was awarded to Celestine from Galacticos for notably fine defending.

SABAH FC 7– 1 CRAZY STONE

This was a chance for the reserves from Sabah to shine. In the 28th minute, Ali scores his 7th goal for the semester with a brilliant pass from Jorden. 5 minutes later goalkeeping error, Ali shoot hit the goalpost and goalkeeper’s unintentionally head the ball into his own net. Shortly into the second half, the score line increased with a remarkable header by Godwin, assisted by Jorden once again. Top scorer Sultan then enters the game as a substitute and scores, unsurprisingly. Crazy Stone did however manage to get the ball pass Hasnat when JJ swooped the ball pass at the chance of a goal keeping error. Ali scores again for the second time in the game, resulting in the 5th for Sabah. The 6th goal came from defender Ahmed who brought the ball into the box and blasted it into the net. Godwin seals the scoring sheet with the final goal of the day by tapping in a brilliant chip by Sultan. Man of the match was awarded to Jorden for his constant assisting and tries.

MACHANZ FC 3 – 2 KELKATU FC

Second in the league Machanz walked away with a victory once again with three outstanding goals by Raj, who was also granted Man of the match. The first half was undeniably Machanz’ as not only did all three goals happen then, but Kelkatu seemed to diminish in their shadow. However, just 6 minutes into the second half, Safiq scores a goal from the left, giving Kelkatu a glimmer of hope. Tompoq took a free kick and he took it well, but Muhammad just manages to block it off. A few minutes later, Salim scores the second goal for Kelkatu, who showed major improvement into the second half. Machanz are now second in the league with only 2 points behind the champions.

SABAH FC 4 – 2 KELKATU FC

Top of the table leaders Sabah FC started the game with a goal by Sultan in the 11th minute and a very close shave of a clearance by Firdaus on the goal line after a very on-target free kick taken by Safiq less than ten minutes later. After a foul for a hand ball by Chendol, Danny had a spectacular free kick but the cross was unfortunately wasted. Hafiz, Kelkatu’s goal keeper should be credited for several of his crucial saves. About 15 minutes into the second half, Mohsen equalized with a grounder shot. And just 3 minutes later, Safiq scored once again, giving them a rare lead over the champions. The lead, however, was short-lived as Sultan scored another two goals, earning himself yet another hat trick in the span of 3 minutes. Hopes of equalizing were shattered when Sultan fires the last goal of the match into the net with a lock right over the keeper’s head 5 minutes before the game ended, and was declared Man of the Match. Again.

GALACTICOS FC 6 – 1 BORNEO FC

Previously conceder of 17 goals to Machanz’ Borneo FC faces Galacticos next. Galacticos had a stronger start with a goal by Aeron in the 8th minute. A few attempts followed after, notably Salim’s that hit the post, Robert’s that went wide and Aeron’s that hit the post again. And also a rare one from O’Neil of Borneo FC’s that also went wide. In the 31st minute, Steve took advantage of Richard’s mistake and blasted a goal pass him and into the net. Marko then decided to join the goal keeper’s slip-ups club and allowed O’Neil to chip the ball pass him, resulting in their second goal scored so far in the league. They had another chance to score but Shannon’s free kick went too far wide after a hand ball foul by Gideon. In the second half, it was apparent that Galacticos needed to brush up on their defending. Their striking stayed on a positive stability with superb attempts by Robert, Salim, newbie Jackie and Aeron. The ball finally found the back of the net twice in 2 minutes thanks to Robert. Aeron then swooped in and scored two final goals for Galacticos and walked away with a hat-trick and the title as Man of the Match.

D EAGLES FC 5 – 0 CRAZY STONE

Eagles FC were obviously the favorites to win the match. However, the replacement of the new keeper, Joel, proved to be jackpot for Crazy Stone as he made a number of brilliant saves that kept the score line empty for half an hour. Eagles then took the lead with a low drive goal by Zee, and another goal by Mmediong five minutes later. It was rather impressive that Crazy Stone only conceded two goals in the first half. Eagles did eventually find their way pass the goal keeper with two more goals from Zee and one more from Mmediong. This is the first time Crazy Stone conceded less than ten goals in one match and has shown massive improvement with the appointment of a new manager, Jowad. Joel was named Man of the Match for his amazing goal keeping.

TRINITY FC 0 – 5 MACHANZ

A lot of people expected more from this match, especially on Trinity’s part. Mazly opened the scoring with a goal in the 26th minute, with slick assisting from Lingesh. In the 38th minute, Raj handed a great pass to Mazly, who then nicely tucked it into the goal, allowing Machanz to lead 2-0 by the end of the first half. About ten minutes into the second, Sean conceded a penalty for a harsh tackle on Lingesh (which resulted in some verbal friction on the field) and Mazly took full advantage of the penalty with a third goal for the team, and for himself that day. Interestingly enough, each winning team of this week has a hat-trick hero each respectively (Sultan, Aeron, Zee, Mazly). Man of the Match, Mazly also assisted in the next goal by Raj; where the ball volleyed into the net in the 69th minute. Just as the match was reaching its end and barely five minutes into the game as a substitute, Juma scored the fifth goal of the match, resulting in a rather unexpected and impressive victory over Trinity FC.
